Register for Al-Bustan Camp 2020

MAY 2020 UPDATE: We are considering offering a VIRTUAL camp this summer.  Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback by completing this short survey!  We will announce our plans by May 19, stay tuned...

Launched in 2002, Al-Bustan's Arabic language and cultural day camp will be back for another summer of fun and learning! This summer will be different than past years as we recently moved to a wonderful location that serves as our administrative and programming hub in West Philadelphia. We decided to be imaginative in our programming and run camp for one age group at a time in our hub. Our rotating art exhibits will take a break during July so that we can make the gallery space flexible and child friendly, taking advantage of our extensive Arabic children's library and educational tools and games.

Here's what we have planned:

Session 1: July 6-10, 2020 for K-1st graders
Session 2: July 13-17, 2020 for 2-4th graders
Session 3: July 20-24, 2020 for 5-7th graders

This summer's theme will introduce campers to JUHA -- a wise fool who has many adventures and is a renowned character in Arab, Persian, and Turkish folklore. Campers will learn of his adventures and tell their own stories through skits, art, and writing. Campers will rotate between Arabic, storytelling, art, and percussion classes with daily trips to a nearby playground. Sessions 2 and 3 will include walking field trips to nearby museums.

Arabic language learning will be woven into all parts of the day.

July 6-10, 2020 | Monday - Friday | 9am - 3:15pm Grades K to 1st
July 13-17, 2020 | Monday - Friday | 9am - 4:15pm
