After-School Arab Arts

Teaching Arab Culture through Art, Language & Music

About the Program

Al-Bustan offers semester and year-long in-school and after-school Arab Arts Programming for students in Philadelphia. Students can attend classes in visual arts and drumming over the course of the year, gaining sustained exposure to and cumulative education on contemporary Arab visual artists and rhythmic cycles of Arab percussion.

"Al-Bustan" is Arabic for "The Garden." Our objective is to plant seeds of creative expression by offering structured artistic programming where students gain an expanded worldview through cross-cultural exchange and arts education.

Al Bustan’s School Arab Arts Program serves multiple Philadelphia public schools covering:

  • through our partnership with Samuel Powel School and Science Leadership Academy Middle School (SLAMS)

  • through our partnerships with Albert M. Greenfield School and Laura W. Waring School

  • through our partnership with John Moffet School

  • through our partnership with Stephen Girard School
