About Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture 

Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture is a Philadelphia-based organization dedicated to celebrating and uplifting Arab arts, language, and culture. Through exhibitions, performances, and educational programming, we provide a platform for artists and communities to engage in meaningful cultural dialogue. 

Position Overview 

We are seeking a passionate and detail-oriented Curatorial and Programming Assistant to support the curation and execution of exhibitions and arts presentations at Al-Bustan Gallery. Working closely with the Executive Director and Marketing & Events Manager, this individual will assist in artist coordination, exhibition planning, writing exhibition statements, and event logistics. Strong writing skills are highly encouraged. This is a part-time contracted position requiring 10-15 hours per week, including attendance at 1-3 events per month. Weekend work is required. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Assist in the curation of exhibitions, including research, artist communication, and installation planning. 

  • Assist with event planning and execution, including concerts, poetry readings, film screenings, and other cultural presentations. 

  • Write and edit exhibition statements, curatorial texts, and related materials. 

  • Coordinate with artists, vendors, and production teams to ensure smooth exhibition setup and deinstallation. 

  • Support project management for exhibitions and arts programming. 

  • Help plan and execute cultural and arts presentations, ensuring logistical needs are met. 

  • Provide on-site event support, including setup, coordination, and breakdown. 

  • Work collaboratively with the Executive Director and Marketing & Events Manager to promote and document events. 

Qualifications 

  • Background in visual arts, curation, arts administration, writing, or a related field. 

  • Strong writing and editing skills, with experience in exhibition texts or arts-related content preferred. 

  • Experience in event coordination, gallery management, or exhibition planning is a plus. 

  • Hospitality experience is preferred. 

  • Strong organizational and communication skills. 

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. 

  • Familiarity with Arab arts, language and culture is preferred. 

  • Availability to work evenings and weekends as needed for events.
