“Travel Along with Ibn Jubayr!” at Al-Bustan Summer Camp 2021
Join Al-Bustan as we dive into the epic story of 12th Century Traveler Ibn Jubayr—or Abu Hussain Muhammed ibn Ahmad ibn Jubayr al-Kenani— and explore the cities scattered throughout the lands between Granada and Mecca as they existed in his lifetime.
In vivid detail, Ibn Jubayr paints his world, from the volcanic Aeolian islands to the people he encountered along his journey. His two-year journey is recalled in Rihla, a book which inspired a whole new genre of writing, known as the creative travelogue! Campers will be introduced to Ibn Jubayr, his world, and his writings through classes in Visual Art, Science, Arabic, Percussion, Storytelling, and more!
Al-Bustan’s flagship program running every summer since 2002, provides a fun, welcoming, and enriching environment that brings together campers, artists, educators, and families, while fostering curiosity and creativity. In our 20th year, we are excited to return to the garden after a difficult year and celebrate our community with a summer camp like no other!
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Al-Bustan has decided to hold our camp this year outdoors under the cover of a large tent. We will require ALL campers to wear a face mask at ALL times (except when eating or drinking) and will work to maintain 6 feet of distance at all times between campers. All parents/guardians will be asked to sign a waiver noting the steps that Al-Bustan has taken to ensure a safe camp environment while acknowledging that there is no way to eliminate all risk of contraction.
