On The Table with Al-Bustan

On the Table Philly returns in 2018 for a second helping of civic dialog on November 8, 2018. The premise of On the Table Philly, is bringing people to together over a meal to strengthen communities. In May of 2017, The Philadelphia Foundation and James L. Knight Foundation partnered to present On The Table Philly, a platform for local community members to host small mealtime conversations about important issues impacting their communities.   Over 300 conversations were held  in homes, offices, and community locations across the region.  The over 150 hosts bought together over 2000 people in small groups of 8-12 people to across the region to chat over a meal.  In 2017, our outreach for traditional media garnered over 3 million impressions and on the event day, On The Table Philly was the highest trending topic on twitter regionally. We are hosting our first ever On The Table dinner this Thursday with chef Osama Herkal, an excellent chef from Syria. He resettled in the USA two years ago, works as a cook at Whole Foods Market and does catering. Syrian food is Osama's passion, he loves sharing his favorite recipes and introducing new friends to traditional Syrian cuisine. As he seeks to establish his catering business he is eager to demonstrate his cooking skills. At this event attendees will learn how to make a few Syrian dishes but will also engage in conversation with community members over dinner. This event is fully booked and we are at capacity. We are grateful for Whole Foods Market for their support.
