In this hands-on workshop, adult participants will explore the art of plushie-making, drawing inspiration from the vibrant traditions and symbolism found in SWANA culture. Through this 4-6 week course, participants will design and handcraft their own plush figures, each symbolizing a unique story or personal significance. The workshop will empower participants to infuse cultural motifs, familial roots, nature, storytelling, color, and symbols into their plush creations. Each class session will cover different aspects of plushie-making, from sketching, to pattern-making, sewing, and embellishing. By the end of the workshop, participants will have completed a soft sculpture that embodies both personal and cultural narratives, sparking conversations around heritage and craft.
Through this workshop, Al-Bustan community members will gain skills in crafting and textile arts while deepening their appreciation for SWANA culture and the role of soft sculpture in storytelling. The project nurtures creativity, cross-cultural understanding, and personal expression, aligning with Al-Bustan’s mission to affirm Arab American cultural identity and foster community connections through art.
