Al-Bustan offers residencies to teach and present Arab music at independent/public schools and community organizations. All-day workshops or classes spread out over days or multiple weeks can be catered to the interests and age of the students and can include Arabic singing, percussion, and folk dance, or leading an established band or choir to learn a repertoire of Arab music.
In 2009 and 2010, acclaimed musician/composer Simon Shaheen worked with several youth jazz bands to perform selections from his Arab Jazz fusion compositions.
In the 2010-11 school year, Music Director Hanna Khoury with Percussionist Hafez El Ali Kotain led a five-week residency at Germantown Friends School. Khoury is also teaching the Wilmington Children’s Chorus over an 8-week period to sing several Arabic songs composed by Marcel Khalife.
