"Ramses-in-the-Thicket" Sculpture, Excavated at Ur

Iraq’s Ancient Past: Rediscovering Ur’s Royal Cemetery, is a new exhibit at the Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology showcasing pieces from a 1922 University of Pennsylvania-sponsored excavation of the ancient city of Ur in Mesopotamia.  This excavation unearthed an extraordinary 4,500-year-old royal cemetery with more than 2,000 burials that detailed a remarkable ancient Mesopotamian civilization at the height of its glory.

The opening reception is held in the exhibition’s gallery on Sunday, October 25.
